Why a Catholic charity is getting $1 million from Donald Trump’s Foundation

Good Samaritans, which provides food to the needy and is considered a good charity in the United States, has been given $1.6 million from the Donald Trump Foundation, according to a statement on the organization’s website.

“The Trump Foundation has been a good friend to the charity over the years,” the statement said.

“We’re pleased to see the Trump Foundation giving good Samaritans a significant donation.

Good Samaritan’s work is vital in many of our communities, and we thank the Trump family for their support.”

The Trump Foundation did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

The charity is one of more than 50 charities that the Trump Organization is giving money to under the Presidential Giving Initiative, which began in May.

It gives $5 million each year to charities that have “a significant impact on people in our community” or in areas where Trump’s businesses have a significant presence, according a press release.
